STEAM Education is an approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Maths as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. It leads students to thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration, and work through the creative process.
These are the innovators, educators, leaders, and learners of the 21st century! In our world where global pollution is intensively experienced, liveable environment and reducing waste of sources caused by consumption process are important issues in terms of national and world economy. We also understand that sustainable lifestyle must be accepted and put into practice. But are the teachers ready to meet these challenges in reality? What knowledge and experiences must they have? What trainings, workshops, programmes are offered to them during distance teaching? What are their issues? In this context, the mission of teachers include encouraging students to fight for gaining sustainable and ecological living habits during the education process but noone knows how to encourage the teachers to feel well prepared, educated and strong in EcoSTEAM. To fill in this gap in our environments with international partnership.
Aim of EcoSTEAM
OBJECTIVES
To develop teachers’ integrated teaching skills on STEAM subjects by raising their awareness on the interdisciplinary relationships
To integrate ecology, environment protection, climate change in STEAM fields
To prepare and present platform/ tool of material on EcoSTEAM To strengthen the schools’ EcoSTEAM curriculum presenting a guidances for EcoSTEAM
To strengthen teachers’ skills and competences in digitality, communication, teamwork, use of foreign language, problem-solving, use of ICT, distance teaching by encouraging them to be more open-minded and feeling themselves as part of the EU.
To enable teachers to work in a mutual exchange with partner school teachers to gain new ideas, insights, theories and methods across Europe To engage students in EcoSTEAM activities
to develop their skills of creativity, critical thinking, collaborative problem solving, learning
to learn and initiative and entrepreneurial competences To introduce students to STEAM disciplines via motivating them in STEAM careers and prepare them for further studies in STEAM
To encourage students to be involved in Experiential Learning, Discovery learning, Inquiry based learning and Project based learning with various STEAM activities developing ideas of ecology,
to work and collaborate with their schoolmates and other countries, students using ICT, foreign language, communication and teamwork skills via virtual workshops
To encourage girls' participation in EcoSTEAM activities

The motivation for EcoSTEAM
‘Take Eco Action with STEAM’. The main aim of the project is
to increase motivation and interest for teachers in EcoSTEAM;
to prepare guidances for EcoSTEAM curriculum.
The project involves 5 schools from 4 countries with different experience, knowledge, beliefs, but common educational ideals.
This project will enable teachers to raise awareness about interdisciplinary relationship between such subjects as Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths and environment protection by exchanging ideas, experiences with their European partners.
With the help of project activities our students (aged 8-13) will develop their skills of creativity, critical thinking, collaborative problem solving, learning to learn, initiative and entrepreneurial competencies required for STEAM disciplines in Experiential Learning, Inquiry Based Learning.
This project will also develop teachers’ digital skills, working with SEN students skills their key competences, improve schools’ STEAM curriculum, green ideas integration, offer the TOOLKIT platform with materials for the lessons, activities, increase our students’ motivation in STEAM related careers, develop, improve SEN students’ STEAM education, enhance their foreign language and digital skills via communicating with their international partners,
EcoSTEAM allows students to connect their learning in these critical areas together with ecological ideas, knowledge, practices, different subjects elements, design principles, and standards to provide the whole pallet of learning at their disposal. It removes gender limitations and replaces them with wonder, critique, inquiry, and innovation.
The motivation for EcoSTEAM
School community will be more conscious about the importance of EcoSTEAM Education and promotion of STEAM influence in ecology, environment protection.
Skills and Knowledge of teachers in teaching integrated skills and STEAM discipline will develop via teacher trainings.
Teaching staff will be more qualified in ICT, English and Communication, digital, distance teaching skills by working online platforms, workshops, trainings. Project-based activities will help our students improve their skills of creativity.

Šiauliai Dermės School is the only school in Lithuania for students having large and very large speech and communication impairments. Our students are from 29 municipalities from all Lithuania. There are 112 pedagogues and 287 students. A school gives a basic education (primary and basic school, lower secondary) for students having special educational needs. School’s vision is a safe, open, constantly improving education institution following humanistic and democratic values in its work, improving of educational process differentiating and individualizing it; consolidation of children and students motivation rendering comprehensive special help for a child as for an educating person with his individual strengths and skills. School is providing unique learning needs based on children disabilities requiringa number of special education and related services, such as specially designed instruction, adapted materials, speech-language therapy.
